Tod in Venedig by Thomas Mann is one of my favourite books. The fashion spread "Wellen" Karl Lagerfeld shot for Vogue Germany's current issue reminds me pretty much of that novel. Just one pictures doesn't fit so I didn't show it here. But you can see it here.
"Death in Venice" is about an author - Gustav von Aschenbach - in his early 50s who seeks rest in Venice/Lido. There he falls in love with a young boy, what he tells himself is an abstract, artistic interest. Well there happens nothing in that case. But, however, by accident he finds out about a cholera epedemic in Venice, but funks his resolution to warn the boys Polish family, knowing that if he does, Tadzio (the boy) will leave the hotel and be lost to him. So he stays and dies of cholera at last.
This particular picture was my initial point:

The clothes and photos are gorgeous... I especially love the way the light outlines the feather trim of the dress in the last one. Haha, I agree though, that photo you linked too doesn't seem to relate to the novel as you summarized it ;)
I really love this novella...
I've only watched Visconti's adaptation, but I should read the book. Anyway, the editorial is amazing.
^agree, specially love the last picture, the pose is so beautiful! so calm and melancholic... and the dress is amazing.
These photos are stunning, I love how eerie they are and the tone of the images is wonderful.
Please stop by my new shop when you get a chance!
Beautiful photos.

@ fenke
I know. But she still does a great job. Just found an amazing ed in the current purple fashion magazine which I might be posting later. There she looks very much like BB, which I pretty much love. She CAN look fantastic, but not always...
